The night before we left for Granada, a bunch of the IES group went down to Atocha to hang out in a few bars. Unknown to me was that Becky wasn’t going to go to Granada with IES, so Becky kept me out until around 3am. The next day I was really tired and I accidentally woke up late. I ended up having to run through the Subways and practically sprinted all the way to the IES Center to make it to the bus on time.
The bus ride itself was long and uncomfortable. Luckily we ended up stopping at a small town to eat some really good breakfast. We also stopped at another small town that had theatre in the middle of it. Overall the trip was very long and I was glad to get to the hotel. By pot luck I was rooming with Jose and Mike. Our hotel room was nice but smelled like vinegar. Once we were all settled in, we went for a walk to a church that was on top of this huge hill. The church rested atop old caves dug by Christians in hiding centuries ago. After our walk IES got us exclusive access to the Alhambra at night and we got to walk throughout the Moorish castle without any tourists. It was very peaceful and was a very rare thing for someone to experience. The next day we left for the beach, where the water was very cold. After visiting the beach we had dinner at Mirador De Morayma. This was a very nice restaurant with the tables sitting outside underneath trees and stars. Overall we were served about ten different dishes. The food was very different than what someone might find in America. The next day we woke up and toured a few Cathedrals across the street from our Hotel. After we toured the Cathedrals we went back to the Alhambra and walked through it again in the daylight. This time it was very crowed and full of tourists. The rest of the day we spent walking around Granada and shopping. Later that night we got to go a private Flamenco performance in these peoples’ home. It was incredible to watch. The next morning we had breakfast in the hotel and then left to go home to Madrid. The bus ride home was very long, but I think everyone enjoyed seeing the Alhambra and Granada. Click on the photographs above for more stories and descriptions of my trip to Granada, Spain. |
